Dr. Ajeet Sidhu

FRACP, M.D. (Pharmacology), M.B.B.S.

“Your profession is not what brings home your weekly pay-check, your profession is what you’re put here on earth to do, with such passion and intensity that it becomes SPIRITUAL in calling” (Vincent Van Gough).
Reflecting on my career path and unbeknown to me this quote has always been my guiding principle.

After graduating in Medicine (M.B.B.S.), due to my keen interest in teaching and training I did my post graduate degree in Pharmacology (M.D.)

Pharmacology is a speciality which deals with ‘what drugs do to our body (mechanism of action, their therapeutic effect, side effects & drug interactions) and what the body does with drugs (their absorption, metabolism & excretion).’ I worked as a facility team member (senior lecturer) at the department of Pharmacology in a premier teaching tertiary hospital, teaching graduate degree in medicine (M.B.B.S), graduate program  in dental program (B.D.S), diploma program in nursing and diploma program in pharmacy students.

On relocation to Australia and after successfully completing my AMC examination, my obvious choice of fellowship was in Geriatric Medicine. This field allowed me to use my skills and knowledge that had been developed from many years of work experience in tertiary teaching hospitals and institutions. Now, with over 16 years of experience I can confidently address to all medical conditions in elderly people.

I have completed my fellowship with well renowned training networks which included sub-specialties of:

  • Acute Geriatrics
  • Community Geriatrics
  • Psycho-Geriatrics
  • Peri-operative management of people above 65 years of age
  • Ortho-Geriatrics

Being a pharmacologist I have an added advantage over other Geriatricians as I can confidently and successfully address poly-pharmacy (use of multiple medication) which is a significant issue in management of chronic and complex medical morbidity in elderly people.

My extensive work experience helped me in developing excellent clinical skills, interpersonal skills and sound judgement; allowing me to provide the best medical care with clear, comprehensive and patient focused management plan.
